Lead the Team. Support a Seven-Station Operation. Keep the Signal Strong.
A private family-owned station group is looking for an experienced Engineering Supervisor to join its operation and lead a team of three Broadcast Engineers supporting a unique and diverse media footprint: two television stations and five radio stations.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an engineer who enjoys both the technical side of broadcasting and the people side of leadership. The Engineering Supervisor will help oversee day-to-day engineering operations, troubleshoot complex issues, support technical projects and develop a talented engineering team across its television and radio properties.
Just as importantly, this is not a “lone engineer” position. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the Director of Engineering, collaborating on projects, priorities, technology decisions and long-term planning. They values teamwork and wants its engineers to feel like an integral part of the organization, not someone left on an island to solve every problem alone.

What You’ll Do
Lead & Develop the Engineering Team
- Lead, coach and support a team of three Broadcast Engineers.
- Coordinate schedules, assign projects and ensure maintenance and engineering priorities are completed on time.
- Provide regular feedback, mentorship and opportunities for professional development.
- Help recruit and hire Broadcast Engineers as the team grows.
- Create a positive, collaborative environment where engineers can do their best work.
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor while encouraging the team to share knowledge and solve problems together.
Support a Diverse Broadcast Operation
- Help oversee the engineering needs of two television stations and five radio stations, providing exposure to a broad range of broadcast technologies and systems.
- Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of broadcast systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoot audio, video, RF, transmission and other technical issues to minimize downtime.
- Monitor broadcast signal quality and reliability and ensure operations meet FCC regulations and company standards.
- Provide advanced technical support to engineering and other departments.
- Support studio, control room, transmitter and remote broadcast operations.
- Help ensure both the television and radio operations have the technical support they need to succeed.
Work Hand in Hand with the Director of Engineering
- Partner closely with the Director of Engineering on system upgrades, new installations, facility improvements and other technical projects.
- Collaborate on engineering priorities, budgets, equipment purchases and long-term technology planning.
- Work together to troubleshoot complex technical issues and determine the best solutions.
- Help implement new technology and processes across their television and radio operations.
- Work with vendors, contractors and internal departments to evaluate, purchase and install new equipment.
- Serve as an extension of the Director of Engineering in supporting the day-to-day needs of the engineering team.
Technology & IT
Today’s broadcast environment increasingly sits at the intersection of broadcast engineering, IT and networking, so the ideal candidate should be comfortable working with technology beyond traditional RF and broadcast systems.
- Support and troubleshoot IP-based broadcast systems and network-connected equipment.
- Have a working understanding of networking concepts and infrastructure.
- Work with Windows-based systems, Microsoft Office and broadcast-related software.
- Help troubleshoot connectivity and technology issues that impact broadcast operations.
- Stay current on emerging broadcast and IT technologies and help identify opportunities to improve the organization’s technical capabilities.
- Experience with CAD software is a plus.
Be a Resource for the Team
- Maintain equipment inventories, maintenance schedules and technical documentation.
- Assist with training and knowledge-sharing within the engineering department.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Collaborate with news, programming, sales and other departments to understand and support their technical needs.
- Be willing to jump in and solve problems when needed, especially during breaking news, severe weather, special events or other critical situations.
What They’re Looking For
- 5+ years of broadcast engineering experience, ideally with some supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of broadcast systems, including RF technology, digital video and audio standards, and IP-based broadcast solutions.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining broadcast equipment and systems.
- Exposure to both television and/or radio broadcast engineering is valuable.
- Working knowledge of IT, networking and IP-based technologies.
- Knowledge of FCC regulations and broadcast industry standards.
- Strong computer skills, including Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to build and repair coaxial, Ethernet, audio and other cables.
- SBE certification is preferred.
- Associate’s degree in electronics, military electronics training or trade school certification is preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, analytical approach to solving problems, especially when the pressure is on.
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop others.
- A team-oriented approach and willingness to collaborate rather than operate independently.

This Is a Hands-On Leadership Role
This is a full-time, primarily 40-hour-per-week position. Broadcast doesn’t always follow a traditional schedule, so the Engineering Supervisor may occasionally work outside normal hours to cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, special projects and major events.
The position is on-site and is not eligible for remote work. The role may require working at transmitter sites, studios and other locations, including outdoor environments and confined spaces. Candidates must be comfortable climbing a 20-foot ladder and working at various heights, occasionally working extended periods without a scheduled break, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The position also participates in a 24-hour on-call rotation. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
