Everyone loves to celebrate the 4th of July! It is that time of year when you get to spend time with friends and family. Hopefully, around good food! It is also a great time to network with people. Here a few tips that can help you network during these events that can help you land the job you have been searching for or to find prospective employees for you to hire.
- Bring a business or contact card. This can be a business card you had made with your contact information (Name, Email, Phone, and LinkedIn Profile) to hand out to people that work in industries you are interested in so you can follow up at a later date.
- Always ask people about what they do, about their employer, and if they like what they do and why. This can give you great insight into how other companies and industries treats its employees. Company culture is HUGE these days so knowing the inside story can help you determine if this would be a good fit for you. Or gives you some idea of suggestions to make your current workplace to help improve the culture.
- Follow up with those you meet. Make sure next week to reach out to those you spoke with at the party and thank them for all the great insight they provided you. If you are interested in a role with their company, make sure you state that and ask if they might be able to make an introduction to the hiring managers.
These few tips can really help you stand out from the crowd in social situations. With 70% of hires being made from word of mouth, large gatherings are a great place to network and learn about your options.
