MSN:  Please describe your current position. How long have you been in the position and with the company?
Schlossberg: I  am the COO and Vice President of Kelly, Scott & Madison, and have been for 15 months. I have been with Kelly, Scott & Madison for 18 years.

MSN:  How did you get this position?
Schlossberg:  Appointed by the President with agreement of other Partners. 

MSN:   What interested you in this position?
Schlossberg:  Involvement with all areas of company.

MSN:  How did you get into media?
Schlossberg:  Someone who lived in my parents' apartment complex played bridge with my first boss and told him I would be calling. It took me 9 weeks to get an interview which lasted all of 5 minutes and then another 9 weeks of persistence. Ultimately, I was willing to sacrifice…and started for $100/week filling supplies and popping broadcast orders.

MSN:  How did you get hired by your current company?
Schlossberg:  Knew former President (now Chairman) for 8 years during which period I kept in touch. Also, I had a unique skill set for which he was looking.
 

 

MSN:  What has been the most challenging for you in your career?
Schlossberg:  Keeping up with the rapidly changing business environment, adapting to the new generation of employees’, and constantly growing myself.

MSN:  What is your favorite part of your job?
Schlossberg:  Connecting with people…mentoring…helping people find a job.
 

 

MSN:  What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into a similar career?
Schlossberg:  Work hard, then play hard...be lucky enough to have a mentor…be open minded…learn to listen (actively)…don’t hide behind e-mail and voice mail…commit at least 2 years to your first job (it takes a year to experience all 4 quarters after which you can begin apply your knowledge)…don’t burn bridges, especially when leaving a company...work the last two weeks as hard as the first two weeks...have patience but understand media is a business of urgency…follow up…do what you say you will do...no suprises…and remember, you are not looking for the cure to the Ebola virus.

MSN:  What tools helped prepare you for this position?
Schlossberg: 35 years experience in the media industry including agency & broadcast…classes/seminars…mentors…books…experience…
 
MSN:  What set you apart from other candidates?
Schlossberg:  Passion, persistence, knowledge, experience, and ability.
