2. Never give out until YOU are sure that you want the job
3. Have a list of at least 5 for mid level, 10-12 for executive level as some people are hard to reach
4. Treat them well and don’t abuse their time
5. Ask permission before using their name
6. Share reasons why you would be a good match for this job with your references
7. Do not use friends or peers, try to get clients, past supervisors, anyone who can speak about your work ethic

9. Supply name, title, phone, email and relationship to you
10. Thank them for taking the time to be a reference for you
