Loomis: Midwest Sales covering the 20 states form MN to TX and CO to OH. I cover existing accounts that are endemic to the business as well as cover accounts that may move in and out of the pre or post natal target. I’ve been with iVillage Parenting Network for 6 years.
MSN: How did you get this position?
Loomis: After being out of ad sales for 10 years, I went back to work as a full time, but temporary employee at a large multi-media company. While I was on a sales call, I literally ran in to an old friend who knew of a position with iVillage Parenting. I interviewed and was hired immediately—a perfect fit.
MSN: What interested you in this position?
Loomis: Working from home, selling something I believed in and having the independence of an outside sales office.
MSN: How did you get into media?
Loomis: I was one of the very few who graduated from college with a business degree in marketing/advertising. I knew I wanted to get in to media and started at the lowest level of the media department—oh those many years ago as a media estimator (they don’t exist today). I worked at the agency for 5 years and then, with a great media background went into sales.
MSN: How did you get hired by your current company?
Loomis: Even though I had been out of the business for 10 years, they were interested in the people that I still kept in touch with and my background from the previous years that I was in sales.
MSN: What has been the most challenging for you in your career?
Loomis: No longer being intimidated by titles. That comes from knowing the sell and homework on the clients.
MSN: What is your favorite part of your job?
Loomis: Changing the minds of the skeptical. Winning over someone who was a doubter or a non believer!
MSN: What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into a similar career?
Loomis: Don’t worry about a start at the bottom. In no time, you grow into the position and begin to be a needed employee, with background, contacts and valued opinions.

MSN: What tools helped prepare you for this position?
Loomis: Not sure that tools helped in my case—school was a long time ago, now its all about instinct, hard work and relationships.
MSN: What set you apart from other candidates?
Loomis: My passion for the sell. My ability to talk to anyone and spending a lot of time listening. It’s what makes my clients feel comfortable with me.
