Ad Sales Jobs

Advertising sales jobs are usually available for any company that hosts advertising, such as:

  • magazines
  • television
  • radio
  • cable
  • Internet
  • outdoor, etc.

However, there are now ad sales positions for new media that people may not be aware of. Think of selling ads for the company that has digital displays in grocery stores; or in taxi cabs, buses, or on cell phones. Don’t forget ads on hangers from dry cleaners, match books and hot air balloons. Online ad sales, or on the Internet is an area that is seeing growth while traditional media outlets may be slow due to the economy.

Over the years, Media Staffing Network has seen lots of new companies spring up and have a need for quality ad sellers. In addition to the above, we have worked with companies selling ads on gas pumps, toy store floors, bathroom doors, coffee cup holders and cash register tape to mention a few.

These start ups often don’t have a strong business plan and they want to find people who will come on to sell their advertising without any guaranteed compensation as they feel that if someone is good, they will be able to support themselves. This is not usually the case. Any quality seller wants to know that the company they represent is quality, is realistic and has the financial backing to support the staff until the concept gains acceptance. With the high amount of new products, media buyers and planners are more cautious before they purchase ad schedules on new media until it is proven. So as a recruiter, it is very difficult for us to find quality ad sellers who will accept an ad sales job without some type of guarantee to hold them over. Many companies used to give someone 90 days to ‘sink or swim’ but most companies that now hire ad sales professionals, will offer up to a year of guaranteed compensation if that person is meeting objectives along the way.
